Hello! Trying to keep my head down, as I’m working on three books at once. It’s a great problem to have, but I wonder if I’ll ever reach a point in my career where I learn to schedule things properly.
Speaking of too many books, I’ll just mention to new readers that I had two books come out in August 2023! Whoops!
THE STORY OF GUMLUCK THE WIZARD is the first of my new chapter book series. It’s a standalone, fully-illustrated story of a silly little wizard who wants to be a hero, and it’s garnered starred reviews from Kirkus, Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, and Shelf Awareness.
A LITTLE LIKE WAKING is an illustrated YA novel about a young woman who discovers her life isn’t real life. She’s living in a dream, and she has to figure out what to do about that before the dreamer wakes up. E. Lockhart called it “a brilliant love letter to the magic of the human mind.”
My publishers say the former is for ages 6-9. The latter is for 12-18. Ten and eleven year olds can take a hike.
And as always, thank you for reading and for sharing this newsletter with a friend.
Thank you! I have both these books, halfway through the second one. I love your illustrations (the beaver for Oregon bookstore Powell’s was lovely) and I am looking forward to learning how this second book turns out! I liked the first one (Gumluck) so much that I bought it for both granddaughters who both like it - they’re 10 & 12.
Meep meep!
